Found the treasure trove of reference fonts I've been searching for! Genuine, real deal, terminal fonts from the 1980s and 90s! https://github.com/JettIsOnTheNet/Old_School_Terminal_Fonts
This collection led me to the original collection provided by int10h/viler-int10h Github. Fonts in JettIsOnTheNet's github has fonts fully patched with ligatures from Nerd Fonts so they work in wezTerm, Kitty, iTerm, VIM, VSCode, Emacs, Zed or whatever else.
There appear to be many more unpatched fonts here, which is better suited for me! Free and ready to use! https://int10h.org/oldschool-pc-fonts/

Past searches net fonts inspired by these established classics, or a few originals behind a paywall. It's cool. Phosfor will end up that way too. But I really want to sit down and pour over the details of these ones.
My end goal is a signature font offering including distinct upper/ lowercase collections, and to acquire all the lessons acquired along the way. Saved up for a significantly more ambitious project. One variation I'm looking forward towards developing is a modernized, properly monospaced, and terminal-appropriate font. Just for fun. For cyberpunk inspired UIs. For whatever. Mostly for me and if others like it? Cool :)
Originally thinking the distinct elements of Phosfor, spliced with Futura (which took us to the Moon via NASA!), and using OCR-A to transmogrify some alchemical magic.

It's a fun learning experience. Grounded in insights gained through the r/typography reddit, Robert Bringhurst's The Elements of Typographic Style which I just picked up, and looking through the following lovely monospace fonts I surfaced looking for inspiration/ auditing what's been done:
DSEG7 & DSEG14 (Free to download and use, see details)

and one of my favorite font creators and aesthetic commentators, U.S. Graphics

Putting them all in one spot for anyone else looking for fonts like these! Enjoy!

• Repetition
• Rhythm
• Space
• Proportions
• Contrast
• Optical Corrections
• Unity
• System logic
• Tension points for utility and novelty
• Texture
